We are Kenya's non-profit professional body for loss adjusters, risk surveyors, marine surveyors, insurance surveyors and motor assessors — working alongside the Insurance Regulatory Authority to protect the credibility of the profession.

Our Code of Ethics

Every IARS member commits to a professional code of ethics covering independence, confidentiality, competence and fair dealing. This is what allows insurers, brokers, regulators and the public to trust an IARS accreditation on sight.

Independent, impartial assessment of every claim or survey
Confidentiality of client and insurer information
Continuous professional development to maintain competence

Full disclosure of any conflict of interest
Fair, evidence-based reporting free from external pressure

Aims & Objectives

Our Aims & Objectives

The Institute's constitution sets out 14 founding aims. In summary, IARS exists to:

Promote and advance the study of the professions of the Institute's three Chapters
Promote efficiency of the professions by requiring strict rules of ethics and professional conduct
Secure the association of the professions represented
Provide a forum for exchanging and disseminating information
Publish or oversee books, newsletters, papers and other materials about the Institute
Organise lectures, classes and tuition for members, the wider insurance industry and others
Research new market risks, disaster preparedness and recovery, and emerging practice challenges

Maintain relationships with bodies such as the Association of Kenya Insurers, Association of Insurance Brokers, Insurance Institute of Kenya, the Commissioner of Insurance and the College of Insurance
Maintain a common fund from fees, levies, donations and subscriptions, applied under the constitution
Represent members on statutory controls, legal bottlenecks, regulations, standards, codes of practice, segregation and victimisation
Secure uniform standards, professional fees and policy across the professions
Enforce strict compliance with the Institute's rules of conduct and Council directives
Establish (and abolish when no longer needed) divisions, branches, a secretariat and local units
Establish and maintain an efficient library or libraries

Two Decades of Growth

2001

IARS is founded in Nairobi

A group of loss adjusting and risk surveying practitioners establish IARS as a non-profit professional body for the insurance sector.

2000s – 2010s

Membership grows across five specialisms

The Institute formalises structured membership for loss adjusters, risk surveyors, marine surveyors, insurance surveyors/investigators and motor assessors.

Ongoing

CPD accreditation with CILA (UK)

IARS partners with the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (UK) to bring internationally recognised CPD accreditation to Kenyan practitioners.

Bi-annual

Regional & international conferences

IARS convenes regional and international seminars and conferences bringing together members, insurers, regulators and corporate partners.

2026

20th Annual Conference

IARS marks its 20th Annual Conference, 6–8 May 2026 at the CBK Institute of Monetary Studies, Nairobi — "Harnessing Strategic Risk for Enterprise Certainty."
